Media-Good

Contrary to what it may sometimes seem, movies and TV do not always present a negative picture of hillbilly heartlanders. We all complain about “the media,” but the popular media does paint a positive picture of hillbillies as well. That includes some of the all-time great Billy TV shows,  though they were sure enough comedy: The Real McCoys, the Andy Griffith Show and The Beverly Hillbillies.

The Beverly Hillbillies

A warm-hearted look at hillbilly culture. Sure, it’s cartoonish enough that self-imagined “sophisticates” may sneer at it as substandard art, but to anybody with a functioning brain: comic genius, from the bits with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs to the “cement pond” to Jethro Bodine’s “gazintas:” 2 gaziinta 4 twice, 2 gazinta 6 three times, etc.
